I couldn’t always say this. I would tell people what I did and they would get this romantic look on their face and say “Oh, I bet you love it don’t you?”
I never knew how to answer. I wasn’t sure I could answer with anything more than ‘it’s complicated’. Sometimes it was great, sometimes it was awful.
If I didn’t love my job then what was I doing? Was I letting everyone down? Had I wasted my life training and doing exams for nothing? What would patients think?
Was there something else out there? If I left I could find out but I couldn’t leave, I wasn’t qualified for anything else, it was scary. The ‘grass isn’t always greener’ I told myself and I carried on with my complicated relationship with my job, occasionally googling alternative careers for doctors.
Does this resonate with you?
What if I told you that you didn’t have to leave?
That you could find a balance and love your job again?
That you could design your life for contentment and end this aching wondering if you’re really making the most of life?
Yes, I can get you some quick wins so that you can get your head back above water right now, but you also have to be willing to look deeper, to see what led you here and how you can take a different path.
A path to calm and contentment, a path to knowing your worth.
It might just be the best thing you ever do.
